ABOUT
Hi, I’m Oliver.

I started making espresso at home for the most unglamorous reason possible: coffee shop visits were adding up, and I figured how hard could it be?
Harder than I thought. But also more interesting than I expected.
What started as a simple cost-cutting experiment turned into a full-blown obsession with grinders, water chemistry, brew ratios, extraction theory, and the kind of minute variables that most people would reasonably never think about. I went down the rabbit hole, and I haven’t climbed out.
What This Site Is About
CoffeeScout (or whatever your domain name is) exists because most coffee gear advice online falls into one of two categories: vague enthusiasm with no real explanation, or technical deep-dives that assume you already know what you’re doing.
I’m trying to do something in between.
Every review, comparison, and brewing guide on this site is written with one question in mind: what would actually help someone making this decision right now? That means real numbers, honest tradeoffs, and a clear answer — not a list of specs copied from a product page.
What You’ll Find Here
- Gear reviews and comparisons — honest takes on espresso machines, grinders, scales, and accessories at every budget, focused on what the specs actually mean in daily use
- Brewing guides — practical explanations of extraction, grind size, water temperature, ratios, and everything else that affects what ends up in your cup
- Beginner resources — if you’re just starting out, everything you need to know before spending any money
- Recipes — every now and then, I’ll drop a cool recipe here for a festive latte, a refreshing summer espresso, or a cozy winter spiced coffee
A Note on How I Work
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you buy something through them — at no extra cost to you. This is how the site stays running.
That said, affiliate commissions don’t influence what I recommend. I write about gear I’d actually put on my own counter, and I say clearly when something isn’t worth the money. If a cheaper option does the job better, I’ll tell you that.

Still Learning.
I don’t claim to have everything figured out. Making coffee is one of those things where the more you learn, the more you realize there is to learn. What I can offer is honest documentation of what I’ve tested, what I’ve gotten wrong, and what’s actually made a difference — written plainly, without the agenda.
If you have a question, a disagreement, or just want to talk coffee, the contact page is always open.
— Oliver
